#  In Memoriam George B. Field

Professor **George B. Field,** founding Director of the Center for Astrophysics, passed away on July 31st at the age of 94. George was a guiding figure for our institute and a friend, teacher, and mentor to many of our members. In 2014, George wrote an [autobiography for ARAA](https://harvard.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=13f357b8637e4a05e4a5d2845&id=0a5e761390&e=b15a3318b6). Sean Carroll, Homewood Professor of Natural Philosophy at John Hopkins University, had George as his thesis advisor and [recently wrote a tribute](https://harvard.us14.list-manage.com/track/click?u=13f357b8637e4a05e4a5d2845&id=f30c2b7459&e=b15a3318b6). A fuller obituary will come at a later time. Our condolences to his wife Susan and their family, as well to George's friends still on the CfA staff.
