Research Interests: The development of sophisticated instrumentation to enable, millimeter, submillimeter, and THz astronomy.

Bio: As Director of the SMA, Blundell’s work focuses primarily on the development and exploitation of state-of-the art instrumentation to enable the SMA to pursue cutting-edge scientific observations of the cool universe.

His Submillimeter Receiver Laboratory has made contributions to the development of low noise heterodyne receiver systems incorporating superconducting tunnel junction and hot electron bolometer mixers; to improving our understanding the submm and THz atmosphere; and to the development ground-based spectral-line astronomy at frequencies beyond 1 THz.
