  • NARAYAN, Ramesh (USA): b.25-9-1950. PhD, Thomas Dudley Cabot Professor of the Natural Sciences, Harvard University, Center for Astrophysics, Cambridge MA, USA. The nominee's most notable research contributions are in two areas he pioneered: (i) Advection-dominated accretion flows around black holes. (ii) Investigations of black hole physics using astrophysical techniques, e.g., finding evidence for the event horizon, and measuring black hole spin. Member of the US National Academy of Sciences, the Royal Society, London, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, he has received the US Presidential Young Investigator Award, the Young Associate Award (India) and the IISc-DST Distinguished Visiting Chair Professorship at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, among others.
